the dontneed.org confronts artists by asking the question :
"how relevant are your art works for the contemporary doings and
art practices of today?".
more less
"i am interested in ideas, not merely in visual products."
marcel duchamp
as we all well know any work of art is per se not necessary. most of
the artists do their art, solely, to please themselves. until any
work of art becomes a commodity and is stamped with a monetary or simple emotional value.
will it, more likely, merely exist for the artist's own pleasure only or is this reality a thing of the past?
artists can respond to this question/statement by making a video piece.
it can be a contra statement, a performance, documentary, portrait, or
just a simple video.
the final selection will be made by the viewers whom will be able to write comments on the videos and even ask to remove the works. if we find the request for removal reasonable it will happen.
dontneed.org is a platform for contemporary artists to show new
works and at the same time to give them the opportunity to reflect upon
their own art production. we as art critics and art producers live in a
time of overwhelming art production, consumption and exposure. thus we
feel compelled to bring new discussions into the contemporary art arena.
